0.25teaspooncayenne pepper (adjust to taste for heat level)
0.25teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonpure vanilla extract
Instructions
Begin by placing a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the rinsed cranberries, honey, fresh orange juice, and water to the saucepan. Sprinkle in the salt and stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
Increase the heat slightly until the mixture begins to simmer. Allow it to bubble gently for about 5-7 minutes, during which the cranberries will burst open and release their natural juices, creating a vibrant, tangy base.
Once the cranberries are bursting, stir in the orange zest, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and vanilla extract. Make sure to blend all the spices thoroughly into the sauce.
Continue to simmer the cranberry mixture for an additional 5-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, until the sauce thickens to your preferred consistency; remember it will thicken more as it cools.
Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool at room temperature. As it cools, it will deepen in flavor and richness.
Notes
Transfer the sauce to a decorative serving bowl and top with extra orange zest and whole cranberries for presentation.
